Issue
When constituting a new item, you may see this error:
Matrix option "Color/Size Name" already uses that abbreviation. Please choose another.
Cause
During item constitution, the process uses a matrix item option abbreviation to identify the option being applied.
- If a matching matrix option already exists, the process uses the existing option.
- If no matching matrix option exists, the process creates a new matrix option based on the user’s selection.
The error occurs when the process tries to create a new matrix option whose abbreviation duplicates an existing option’s abbreviation.
Resolution
Fix the conflict by either:
- Updating the existing matrix item option abbreviation, or
- Creating a new matrix item option with a unique abbreviation
Method 1: Update the existing matrix item option (recommended)
- In NetSuite, open the matrix item option list used for the item (for example, the relevant Color or Size list).
- Search for the option name shown in the error message.
- Edit the option and update the Abbreviation to a unique value.
- Reconstitute the item.
Method 2: Create a new matrix item option
- Manually create a new matrix item option for the color/size you are trying to constitute.
- Set a unique Name and unique Abbreviation.
- Reconstitute the item.
Notes
- If you are not sure which Size and Color option lists are used in your environment, consult your NetSuite Administrator.
