Issue

Users may encounter an error while trying to create a new item with eXtendTech's distributor integration bundles. The error message reads similar to: "Matrix option Color/Size Name' already uses that abbreviation. Please choose another."

Cause

This issue occurs when the process for creating items within NetSuite during item constitution tries to create a new item option with the same abbreviation as an existing one.

  • Matching item option found
If a match is found, that found matrix option will be used for creating a new item.

  • Matching item option not found
If a matrix option match is not found in the existing list of item options, our process will create a new item option based on the option selected by the user. This new item option is then used to create the item record in NetSuite.

While creating a new item option, sometimes our process creates a matrix item option with same abbreviation as an existing item option. In such cases you will see the "Matrix option 'COLOR/SIZE NAME' already uses that abbreviation." error message.

Solution

The error can be resolved by updating the existing conflicting item option or by creating a new one.

Method 1: Updating the Existing Item Option

  1. Search for the matrix option name in the associated matrix item option list.
  2. Edit the found item option and change its abbreviation to a unique value.
  3. Reconstitute the item. This will allow you to create your items without any further errors.

Method 2: Creating a New Item Option

  1. Manually create a new matrix item option for the item's size/color that you are trying to constitute.
  2. Make sure to give this new matrix item option a unique name and abbreviation.
  3. Reconstitute the item. This will allow you to create your items without any further errors.
Please consult with your NetSuite Administrator to determine which size and color matrix item option lists are being used in your environment.
